Trinity Clinic Eye Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of conditions and diseases of the eye, as well as routine eye examinations and glasses and contacts prescriptions. Clayton E. Whitney, MD, FACS, chief of ophthalmology, has more than 20 years of experience in providing quality and compassionate care for patients throughout east Texas.


Services offered at Trinity Clinic Eye Center include:

A specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease and conditions, Dr. Clayton Whitney is a summa cum laude graduate of Texas Christian University where he was selected for membership in Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honorary medical fraternity. He completed an Internship in Internal Medicine at Harvard's Brigham and Women's Hospital and a Residency in Ophthalmology at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. This was followed by a Fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the Wilmer Eye Institute of the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. In 1986, Dr. Whitney returned to his hometown of Tyler to take over the practice of G. William Burch, MD.

Dr. Whitney is Board Certified by The American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a Fellow of The American Academy of Ophthalmology and The American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association and is a Clinical Professor of Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Whitney was honored by the University of Texas Southwestern medical School on June 20, 2009 with an Outstanding Service Award and a 20 Year Service Award.

Dr. Whitney has a special interest in Lasik surgery, small incision cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, and medical and laser glaucoma therapy. Dr. Whitney has taught ophthalmology residents at Parkland Hospital in Dallas for over 20 years.


Hans D. Schuricht, MD, FAAO

Dr. Schuricht received his medical degree from the University of Texas - Houston Medical School. He completed his transitional internship at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston and his residency in ophthalmology at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium, Brook Army and Wilford Hall Medical Centers. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science.

As a member of the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Schuricht treated combat-related ocular and orbital injuries while serving with the 332nd Expeditionary Medical Group at Balad Air Base, Iraq. His military service included experience as staff ophthalmologist with emphasis on cataract and corneal refractive surgery at David Grant Medical Center, Travis Air Force Base, CA and as a flight surgeon with the 7th Bomb Wing, Dyess Air Force Base, TX. Dr. Schuricht earned the Curtis E. LeMay Top Graduate Award, Commissioned Officer Training, Maxwell Air Force Base, AL and was a Distinguished Graduate of the Aerospace Medicine Primary Course, Brooks Air Force Base, TX.

Dr. Schuricht is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. His awards include membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, The University of Texas – Houston Medical School.
