What is Spasticity?
Spasticity occurs when muscles contract involuntarily, causing painful, cramp-like spasms and spastic movements. Spasticity is disabling and can be caused by
stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy or injury to the head or spinal cord. It usually affects one limb or side of the body, but can also affect the entire body. As the result of years of clinical research, new treatments are now available for spasticity.

Where Can I find Help?
The Health System provides advanced evaluation and treatment of cerebral or spinal
originated spasticity. Patients are evaluated for spasticity or contracture and its effects on function. Treatments are prescribed based on this functional evaluation. Patients are evaluated by a rehabilitation physician to determine the most appropriate type of treatment.
