For the more than 380,000 Texans with epilepsy and seizure disorders, everyday life is anything but ordinary. Helping you get your normal life back is our first priority. As the only facility in east Texas offering continuous inpatient monitoring, Mother Frances Hospital can help improve seizure control for people with epilepsy and other seizure disorders.
Using state-of-the-art technology in a specialized environment, Trinity Mother Frances Epilepsy Monitoring Unit provides comprehensive simultaneous audio, video and electroencephalographic (EEG) monitoring under controlled conditions to assess seizure activity in both pediatric and adult patients. Information gathered from seizure activity is analyzed and recommendations for appropriate treatment are provided at a follow-up appointment. For many who suffer from epilepsy, obtaining a diagnosis is an important step in controlling seizures.
People who may benefit from continuous inpatient monitoring include:
- Patients whose seizures have become medicine resistant
- Patients with seizures that mimic epilepsy
- Patients with behavior problems related to epilepsy
- Patients who have toxicity to anti-epileptic medications
Epilepsy is a neurological condition in which brief disturbances in the electrical functions of the brain result in a loss of consciousness, bodily movements or sensations. Having a single seizure does not equal an epilepsy diagnosis. Evaluation at the Trinity Mother Frances Epilepsy Monitoring Unit requires a physician referral.
