The Trinity Mother Frances Neuroscience Institute encompasses multiple specialties addressing diseases, disorders and conditions of the brain, spine and central nervous system. Included in our comprehensive services are specialists in neurosurgery, neurology, pain medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, sleep medicine and stroke. Combined with the award-winning clinical resources of Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics, state-of-the-art patient care facilities and the latest surgical and treatment technologies, the Institute's goal is to provide the highest level of neuroscience care to patients from east Texas and beyond. Among the technologically advanced tools utilized by the Institute are: the Zeiss neurosurgical microscope with fluorescence module that allows the neurosurgeon to distinguish between tumors and brain tissue; the Invivo EloquenceTM functional MRI system, the first in east Texas; the CereTom® portable 8-slice CT scanner by NeuroLogica (the second in the state); the BrainLAB Navigation System; and a Zeiss microscope with infrared camera that is of significant importance during complex neurovascular operations. Patients requiring complex surgical procedures such as endoscopic transsphenoidal resection of pituitary tumors, endoscopic resection of colloid cysts and third ventriculostomies can now seek treatment at Trinity Mother Frances.
The Trinity Mother Frances Stroke Center has neurologists and a dedicated stroke team available 24-hours a day to help in the rapid identification and treatment of stroke. The highly trained team has immediate access to the latest technology available to rapidly diagnose and treat stroke symptoms. Mother Frances Hospital-Tyler also has two units with staff dedicated to stroke care: the Neuro Progressive Care Unit and the Neuro Critical Care Unit. In addition to the specialized units, our Trinity Mother Frances Rehabilitation Hospital, a 63-bed acute rehabilitation hospital, is nationally recognized year after year as a Stroke Center of Excellence.
The Trinity Mother Frances Neuro Critical Care Unit is a highly-specialized center located in the Ornelas Tower providing personalized intensive care for patients recovering from severe neurological disorders such as brain tumors, aneurysms and certain spine surgeries. The Neuro Critical Care Unit is staffed by nurses with extended training in caring for the acute neurologic patient.
The Trinity Mother Frances Sleep Center offers advanced facilities and equipment and a highly specialized staff to test and evaluate patients referred by their primary physician or a sleep specialist. As a provider of comprehensive neurological services, the Trinity Mother Frances Neuroscience Institute offers advanced diagnostic equipment and a highly skilled professional staff to assess sleep disorders and recommend treatment, so you and your loved ones can rest easy. A team of polysomnographic technologists perform comprehensive evaluations of patients experiencing symptoms of sleep disorders using the latest diagnostic equipment. Diagnosis of sleep problems involves an overnight stay in one of ten quiet, homelike sleep suites at the Trinity Mother Frances Sleep Center, where brainwave activity and sleep habits are monitored. Using advanced technology, patients are linked to computers which continuously record a multitude of neurological functions as the patient sleeps. Diagnosis and treatment are available for patients suffering from sleep apnea, restless sleep, delayed sleep phase and other sleep disorders.
The Neuroscience Institute's Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation staff offer comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of acute pain and musculoskeletal disorders, treating a variety of conditions including neck pain, lower back pain and pinched nerves (radiculopathy), with the goal of restoring function.
The Trinity Mother Frances Epilepsy Monitoring Unit offers the latest technology in a specialized environment to assist people with medicine-resistant or otherwise difficult-to-control seizures. The goal of monitoring is to improve or effectively manage seizure control. This comprehensive service offers simultaneous audio, video and EEG monitoring under controlled conditions to assess seizure activity. The monitor technicians and neurology nurses provide patient and family support for adults and children who are admitted for evaluation.
The Trinity Mother Frances Neuroscience Institute Neuro Radiology (INR) includes one of the most advanced imaging systems in the state. This innovative treatment is used to diagnose and treat abnormalities in the brain's vascular system, including tumors, aneurysms and AVMs. In many situations, INR can be an effective alternative to major surgery, allowing shorter procedure time, less anesthesia and faster recovery.
Trinity Mother Frances Rehabilitation Hospital provides advanced rehabilitation care for east Texans. Trinity Mother Frances Rehabilitation Hospital is a 63-bed facility with both inpatient and outpatient programs to assist patients with limitations in mobility, communication, endurance, thinking and self-care. A team of medical professionals, including two Trinity Clinic physiatrists, evaluate the progress of the patient. Animal-assisted therapy, a unique program using specially trained pets to comfort and assist patients during therapy, has been found to benefit the patient's physical and emotional recovery.
