Stereotaxis

Known as the catheterization lab of the future, Stereotaxis (AXIOM Artis dFC Magnetic Navigation System) provides a revolutionary new way of treating coronary artery disease. Trinity Mother Frances Heart Institute was the first in the United States to use the magnetic-assisted catheterization lab for interventional cardiology, and now is the first in the world to have both single- and bi-plane configurations, with the addition of a second Stereotaxis catheterization lab. There are two primary uses for this technology:
  • Interventional Cardiology - The magnetic navigation system is used for delivering stents and angioplasty to difficult-to-reach and tortuous vessels that previously would have required open-heart surgery for treatment.
  • Electrophysiology (EP) - For EP cases, the physician uses the magnetic system to create a 3D “map” of a patient’s cardiac electrical pathway so that the source of an irregular heartbeat can be pinpointed and treated through ablation therapy, medication or implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). In addition, the system aids in the placement of pacemakers.
